Sejaan Boutros Ghafari Endowed Scholarship Fund

Detroit — November 13, 2025 — The Saint Joseph University Foundation, Beirut Inc., a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit supporting Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), proudly announces the signing of an agreement between Sejaan John Ghafari and Jean Abou Ezzi, President of the Foundation, establishing the Sejaan Boutros Ghafari Endowed Scholarship Fund, supported by a generous $1 million pledge.

This major milestone was celebrated during a warm and memorable gathering generously offered by Nada and Sejaan Ghafari and their family. The evening brought together friends and supporters of the University, along with representatives of its leadership and the Foundation’s team in Beirut, including Prof. Salim Daccache, SJ, Rector of USJ; Rev. Fr. François Boëdec, SJ, Rector-elect; and Mrs. Cynthia Ghobril Andrea, Director of Fondation USJ. Their presence underscored the importance of this new endowment—especially as Saint Joseph University of Beirut celebrates its 150th anniversary, marking a century and a half of academic excellence and service to Lebanon.

During the celebration, Prof. Salim Daccache, SJ, presented Mr. Ghafari with the USJ 150-Year Anniversary Medal, recognizing his generosity and lifelong commitment as an alumnus and honoring his constant support of the University and its mission.

As one message shared during the celebration beautifully expressed: “You are helping those seeking education through your generosity by providing them with scholarship… you are a shining guide in our midst.” The sentiment echoed the spirit of service, humility, and compassion that defines true leadership and that this endowment so powerfully embodies.

The US Foundation will continue to share updates on the progress of the fund and the meaningful impact it will have on deserving students in Lebanon.
