On May 7, Alumni and friends of Saint Joseph University of Beirut (USJ), gathered in Atlanta for a warm and memorable evening in honor of the University’s 150th anniversary. The event unfolded in an atmosphere of genuine hospitality, thanks to the generosity of Mr. Tony Khoury, a dedicated friend of USJ whose passion for education and community made the gathering truly special.

The event welcomed a delegation from Beirut, including Rector Prof. Salim Daccache, S.J., Mrs. Cynthia-Maria Ghobril Andrea, Director of the USJ-HDF Foundation, Mr. Dany Maalouly, Fundraising Director. They were joined by Mrs. Randa Hakim, Director of the USJ North America Office.

In his remarks, Prof. Daccache warmly thanked Mr. Khoury for making the evening possible and expressed gratitude to all who attended. He noted that the gathering beautifully reflected USJ’s enduring values of friendship, education and solidarity, especially meaningful as the University celebrates its landmark anniversary.

Far from a formal event, the evening had a cozy, convivial feel. Conversations flowed easily, bridging generations of alumni and creating space for new connections. It was a chance to share memories, reflect on the journey so far, and look ahead with hope and shared purpose.

As USJ continues its mission to serve the common good through excellence in education, civic responsibility, and open dialogue, evenings like this reaffirm the vital role its Alumni and friends play in carrying forward its mission across borders.

Honoring a True Friend of USJ

The evening also included a special tribute to Mr. Tony Khoury. Prof. Daccache presented him with the USJ 150th Anniversary Commemorative Medal, a distinction that honors those who embody the university’s spirit and values. Though not an Alumnus, Mr. Khoury’s commitment and generosity created a meaningful moment of unity and shared hope for Lebanon’s future.
